My name is Linda Goodman Pillsbury (this
picture is a few years old) and I started Perspective Publishing nine years
ago when I put together and published a guide to finding childcare in Los
Angeles. My background was in the entertainment business where I worked
for eight years in various production and development jobs. I had found
childcare for my daughter and so many people asked me how I found it and
what was available that I decided there should be a book on it. So I put
one together. My then 3-year-old did the illustrations, I had it printed,
and I was in business. Needless to say, I learned by doing. It did well
and I had so much fun that I decided to update and expand it, and I brought
out Childcare Southern California. The childcare books were too time-consuming
to continue to update, but by then I was hooked on publishing, had two young
children, and had problems I needed solutions to. My older daughter was
a whiner and I asked Cynthia Whitham what to do about it. She told me about
the Parent training Program at UCLA, and told me step-by step what to do.
I did everything she said and three days later the whining was cut in half!
I couldn't believe it. I knew we had to let other people know what to do
to. About two years later she was done with Win the Whining War &
Other Skirmishes. I got Barry Wetmore, a professional artist and a parent
at my daughter's school, to do illustrations for the book and I published
it. It has been very successful; it's in it's 4th printing and has even
been translated into French. You can see the rest of the books I've done
since then on our catalogue page. If you have any
questions, feel free to contact
me.
